[s-cars] how many miles can the AAN bottom end last without bearings/rings?

Guys:

Yeah, totally vague question ;-)

How bullet-proof is the bottom end of a stock AAN?  I know that a 
valve job will be needed before the bottom end, sooner if the car has 
overheated and compromised the head gasket, etc

I heard recent stories of spun main bearings, etc...
And due to my ignorance, does a spun main bearing typically mean that 
the block is junk?

any BTST ( been there, suffered that)
