Why did you break off the key instead of just swapping the guts (circuit
board, IR-ED) into your key? Both sides of the key come apart, one side is
the battery cover, the other side unclips and reveals the circuit board. If
you're tired of carrying both big black portions, just merge them to your
key.

Harold - you may be able to score a used one (although if the problem does
not lie with your remote key, then you'll have the same issues). I used a
key from an S4, which once reprogrammed, worked great for my '95 S6.
I broke off the metal key to create a remote "fob" out of the plastic head.
Cost was $20 for the key, obtained from a lister.
If there is a local lister with a similar key, you may want to reprogram
your car to see if the "new" key has the same issues as your current key,
which would then point to a problem with the system and not the key.
