Isn't this world economy great? No?, well, it does mean more
scrutiny from the individual. Some of the German suppliers exercise
some quality
control for the parts they source there. Perhaps not as much as the
German engineer's hot breath on the back of your neck in the former bloc
countries where they produce quality engines, etc, in places that
were used to providing wider tolerance parts to the Soviets.
You can only hope that those manufacturers and suppliers that have
the reputation for quality will value that status more than the fast
buck.
The one exception to the price to quality equation is the US
manufacturer Karlyn that makes mostly VW parts but has moved into the
Audi

This list provides some great information in this area, unfortunately
the bulk of it is negative experience.
