Steve suggested:

spray some ether into the intake. does it start (and run) then?

BTDT, replaced the fuel pump (when it wasn't needed)

......so I pulled the intake hose and sprayed some starting fluid into the IM and put the hose back on.  Car started and ran for about 3 seconds then shut off again.  Tried again, same result.  Looks like fuel (pump) is the issue, as I've swapped relays and no change.

Thanks for the advice.  I ordered a new pump and fuel filter from FAP99.  Hopefully it gets here expeditiously.
