Of course you did. I thought the first thing you did to any rental after starting the car and inflating the tires to 55 psi was deactivating the ESP/traction control and turning off the AC compressor!!! ;-)

I just rented a GTH Mustang from Hertz. Let's just say I found out how to over ride the traction-control-is-always-on feature.

I do happen to know that Hertz rents Jaguar XJ6's, Lincoln LS's, Volvo S80 T5 FWD (*rumored to be more fun than you'd think*), Crown Vics, Chevy Trailblazers, etc... Jus' sayin'...

Mike,
Sorry for the short notice but I didn't want to risk a winter track event in April with the little snow we had this year. If the general consensus is it's too soon and the snow storm tomorrow has little sisters coming in March, I may plan one in April.
Beside, I will check for next year but I think combining a GTG with one of the driving schools should be doable if the driving schools are not already planned on weekends.
For the car, Hertz have plenty of them to JNR. I've seen S60 AWD at the Montreal Airport for rent (probably not cheap) but that would make a pretty decent ride on an ice track if you don't want to drive your urS all the way from Colorado.

Hey Vincent ~ I'm not a NErs, but first I wanted to thank you for
your effort in putting this information together.
FWIW personally I'd be very interested in trying to do something with
the Mecaglisse program, but ....
Unfortunately this year I'm committed to an Audi DE on ice in Sweden
that requires a March 12th departure for Paris.
There just isn't any way to squeeze the dates you have into my schedule.
Unfortunately, it's like herding cats. I need more advanced notice to
work things out.
That brings up a second point .... I'm located in Colorado. In order
to get a car to this one day event, Denver to Montreal, one way, is
some 1,835 miles. It's a long way to go, and then try to come back,
in a car, for a day.
In looking at the Mecaglisse site, I see that they also offer their
own programs. I'm wondering if (a) the dates could be some how more
or less coordinated; and (b) one were to say sign up for one of the
Mecaeglisse two or three or 5-6 day programs including their driving
on ice, if one might then also be able to rent one of their vehicles
for your proposed weekend Audi event, assuming of course that you east
coast //S-Fest folks can get together for one next year in 2008?
Anyways, cheers and thanks for looking at this. FWIW, we just
finished up last week with the annual Chicago groups exodus to
Colorado for the Gruppe-Q event, www.gruppe-q.com at the Bridgestone
Winter Driving tracks up in Steamboat, Colorado.

PS ~ BTW NErs, you're crazy not to try to make this happen. Come on ~
12 isn't such a big number to come up with. :-)

Hi NEers,
It started with Paul posting philosophical thoughts about Audiocy,
then
Taka pushing the N.E. border a bit further
North, then me adding a name to all this: Winter audiOcy Tour, aka
2007
WOT, and looking for a
snow or ice covered race track where we can express our full
potential of
JNRing.
After some (to say the less) procrastination, here it is:
- A 2.5km packed snow/ice covered race track with low soft banks
(for now).
- Time trials so we all bring our car back home.
- A club house to keep you warm
- 1:15 North of Montreal
- 15-30min East of Mont Tremblant
There is two weekend dates still available in March: March 4th and
March
11th (both Sundays)
If you want to see what the track looks like, it's the track
#1 here: HYPERLINK
http://www.mecaglisse.com/en/car_rally_school.htm
http://www.mecaglisse.com/en/car_rally_school.htm
By the way, Audi Canada organized its own Winter Driving School on
the
exact same track last month.
The cost will be 150-270USD/car (taxes included) depending the number
of
cars, with the track open just for us from 10:00 to
16:00, plus 8.50 USD insurance per pilot and copilot. DOT helmet
required
for pilot and copilot (bike or car helmet).
Winter tires or studded tires strongly recommended, but hopelessly,
super-studded tires not allowed.
I would need a minimum of 12 participants to make it reasonably
affordable,
max 20-25, so we can count on 90 to
180min track time per car if we go with the max of 6 cars on the
track at
the same time, which seems very reasonable with a
2.5km track.
And we can also organize some JNRing on skis, on snowmobiles, in spas
or
in
fine restaurants for the Saturday. Possibilities
are quite endless in the area.
First step first, I need at least 12 people interested on one of
these
two
dates. If you're interested, email me or post to
the list with one of the two dates or both. As soon as I reach 12
people
on
either date, I will reconfirm track availability
with Mecaglisse, fire up Paypal and reserve the track.
Then we'll see what kind of activities we can organize in the area
for
Audiocyproof wives, little future audinuts and other
people that would want to come with you.
Vincent pondering the possibility of maybe considering the option
that
something may happen F.
P.S.: If someone could crosspost the Audi20V list, I would
appreciate. I was planning to, and then realized that I withdraw from
the list when the 90Q20V left me, R.I.P.
P.S.bis: Don, please spread the word in the Laurentian Audi Mafia.
P.S.ter: Paul, now that you pushed me into this, you'd better bring
the AlumaBeast or the twelve wheels 4KQ
