[s-cars] engine trouble HELP

Elijah,

It sounds like my noise may have a different origin than yours. My car sounds perfect at idle, and the noise is only there when car is in gear, and I have let off the gas pedal. The noise is gone if I press the clutch, and it is gone when coasting in neutral.

At first, I though it may be a clutch or transmission component (throw-out bearing, pressure plate, pilot bearing), but I don't have an extensive knowledge of those parts, and a friend of mine heard the noise and does not think it is those.

Any BTDTs or good guesses are greatly appreciated!

-Keith

>Keith, Yes and no, at first the noise would only happen on startup in the morning. As it got worse it would happen more at idle and when driving would go away. Sounds like you may have the same problem. You should be able to stand at the front of the car with the hood open and be able to tell at least if its coming from the front of the car. The ac compressor can also make similar noise. Elijah

>Elijah,I have been having a similar noise in my '95.5 S6 over past two weeks, as well! My noise is intermittent, in that I only hear the squealing noise when I have my foot off the gas pedal. As soon as I BARELY touch the gas, the noise is gone. At first I was worried this was a transmission noise, but that may not be the case. Did you notice that you had the same relationship with the gas pedal and the noise? Thanks,Keith Bedard-----------------------------------------Ok, I took the serpentine belt off and it looks like the wheel/pully that the fan hooks to is the culprit. If I remember right this is attached to a bracket that has to be replaced at the same time. Where can I buy these parts fast? I would guess the AC compressor is locked up, but you'll know for sure when you pull the belt off.
