Hey Mr Bill.....

funny you post about the "prestige" cars from Hertz but your list isn't complete !!! We just got back from a week in Florida, and rented a "prestige" vehicle. When we finally made it through the line of people and got to the counter, the wife mentioned we had a Q7 set aside.
The counter person had a perplexed look on his face and said he had never heard of a Q7 and they didn't have one. Anyone who knows Cilla knows she's not going down without a fight, and after much argueing got a manager involved and sure enough they DID have it there waiting. Once we got the paperwork going I asked the counter dude what he had us down for and he said a 07 S6 !!! <THUD> Since I had four passengers WITH luggage I had to "settle" for the Q7... 8-)

As for the Q7.... Nice vehicle! White on tan. Took me a while to figure out what all the knobs and dials and switches did but actually VERY easy to use once you got it. (I "think" you can cycle through EVERY function right on the steering wheel!) Pretty much loaded. Nice sterio (Bose/Sirius). NAV but no maps, as mentioned they DO include their neverlost system which I absolutely LOVE. As soon as I find out who the manufacturer is, I'm getting one! I couldn't find mention anywhere who builds it. The only two things I didn't like about it besides the look 8-), were the pop up deflector for the MASSIVE dual sunroofs and the huge front end. The sunroof deflector is a screen rather than solid wedge and was caked with bugs after a couple of days (that must be fun to clean!). The hood and grill size make for interesting parking, I couldn't get a sense for where the front tires were. It did draw lots of attention.... on several occasions we had people walk over and peer in, while we were still sitting in it!

We flogged it pretty hard. Had it out doing "manuvers" on Daytona beach. (thought they might notice the caked on wheel wells when we turned it in but they never blinked) Another thing that surprised me was I attempted to power brake it at one particular stop light when a young street racer was egging me on. As long as I had my foot on the brake, the gas pedal had very little effect on the motor. You'd geta little bog and that was it. Hmmmm... what fun is that ? Tranny in sport mode is cool! Snappy upshifts and downshifts at just the right rev.

All in all, a very nice vehicle but still not my style. Next time I'm taking fewer passengers and the S6 !

cheers,

tom.
