Nope, that's definitely not the best thing to do.

Rebuilt axles, with almost no exceptions (there are a few) are utter  
junk. Rebuilding CV joints is a very iffy proposition, as it involves  
re-grinding the joint (which isn't easy, since it's hardened steel),  
re-heat treating the joint, and re-assembling it with oversized  
balls. The machining and heat-treating are decidedly non-trivial, and  
very expensive, so most "rebuilders" just hunt through their piles of  
junk joints until they find two that are "okay" clean them up, and  
use them. You are not getting a product that's equivalent to new with  
rebuilt axles.

If you want to find a quality rebuilt axle, find a place that uses  
NEW joints, at least on the outer end. I think Raxles.com uses only  
new joints, but I'll bet their price reflects that fact.

As for a guess on labor, I'd guess 1-2 hours at whatever your  
prevailing shop rate is in your area. Parts for a new joint and boot  
kit will probably be $100-$200. Re-boot the other joint while you're  
in there.
