Matt,
The most common alternator failures are worn-out regulator brushes and
blown rectifier diodes.  You will probably better off in the long run
by having your alternator diagnosed and repaired/rebuilt by a local
shop instead of replacing it with a "remanufactured" unit that contains
used parts of dubious heritage.

 you might want to give Vanatta Auto Electric a call: 303-443-5775. 
They rebuilt my alternator a few months ago, and they charged me less
than what a remanufactured alternator would have cost me from an online
vendor.
