[s-cars] alternator woes?

Forrest, nope, not that I've heard... but it's hard to hear anything
between the heater fan cranked and my toddler squawking happily from
the back seat. 8-)

*Update*
Alternator was (NOT) charging at 11.8 when I arrived at work, I pulled
the brush assy out, they were both gooed-up with some old hydraulic oil
from the leaky hose. But one appeared to not "spring" back in place.
I hosed the entire thing with brake cleaner and blew it out dry with
air. After work, pulled the battery off the charger and fired up the
car for the ride home... checked voltage on a whim = 13.8! Appears
i've dodged a big bullet, and simply need a new brush assy. There are
2 very small lines on each brush, that i'm assuming are wear
indicators. Mine are NOT worn that far down, but i'm going to order a
replacement anyway.

On that note: no one in town has it in stock, and Scott from SJM was
even so kind to call me back with another Bosch p/n that i can call
around here to try and find. The local alternator rebuilder is also
out.

So, long story short: the stealer can get only the brush and regulator
assembly and the p/n of 068 903 803 D is superseded to the same with an
X on the end. (Thanks Jerry, and Jamu for the original!)

so, 068 903 803 DX is a remanufactured brush/reg assy, with a 20 core
charge, and is for cars up to the VIN split where audi went to the 120
amp alternator, IIRC, and is 45 bucks in the end.

Thanks for all the help, guys! I've detailed everything here in the
hopes it'll help another. TGIF!
