[s-cars] NAC- New Jersey Tickets

If it were points or insurance rates, I'd say contest it as it's more than
just the $220 fine involved.
But if you're positive it's fine only, unless you really like to grind an
axe, pay the fine and be done with it. First, in NJ, mistakes like the ones
you describe are not grounds for dismissing the ticket in local court (well,
they are, but it'll NEVER happen). Second, you will 150% without a doubt
lose the case in local court, where you are guilty until proven innocent.
So you have three chances to "win". Cop does not show in local court, which
is possible but not likely. You meet with local court prosecutor before the
case and get it changed to non-moving violation, like disobeying traffic
device or whatever name NJ came up with for the charge that costs a lot of
money but has no points (unsafe driving I think, I'd have to go look at my
last three tickets). But since points are not an issue you say, no reason to
do that. Or you win on appeal due to errors by cop. But to appeal, you need
transcript ($), post a bond ($), pay court costs ($),etc. It'll cost you
more than the ticket fine to win on appeal.
So again, if you want to grind the axe, you have a shot at winning, but
there is no financial benefit. Maybe please not guilty, go to try and work
deal with prosecutor and hope cop no shows, then just change to guilty if
not. But then you have to pay court costs too.
