So, my brother -in-law wants to replace his exhaust on his E36 M3.  The 
cats are bad and he wants to add a cat-back.

He contacted Stromung and was given a price for the cat-back.  When he 
asked about a cat, he was told that the only thing Stromung would 
recommend is replacment of the cat guts with new ones from BMW.  
Anything else would be sub-par.

My b-i-l is not an all out car guy but he is no butter-nut either.  He 
asked me about this situation.  I am stumped.  Replace cat guts? 

Anyone know anything about this?  Any recommendations for a replacement cat?
