[s-cars] UPDATE 2 - Help - Can't shift into 1st or 2nd!

Hi JR;
Yes, if the clutch is not fully disengaging it will be very difficult to
impossible to shift into gear without rev matching (i.e. clutchless
shifting). The synchros will be trying to match shaft speeds and will have a
hard time of it against the engine torque and rotational speed. They are
only designed to work against the mass of the freewheeling shafts. If it is
the clutch, it must be almost completely disengaged or you would grind the
gears when you shift. In addition, you should be able to shift easily with
the car and engine stopped if the clutch is causing your problem. I have had
two fingers break on a pressure plate that caused the clutch to drag, but it
had so much drag I had to shift without the clutch to drive the car home.

It's funny you should mention this. I pushed hard and it went into 1st
and now 1st is working fine. Everything now works but 2nd gear. 2nd is
sort of back. When I pull very hard down to 2nd I don't feel or hear
the click of it going into gear, but when I let the clutch out I'm in
2nd. I notice that when the car is off and I'm not even using the
clutch, the gears change easier than when I start the car and shift with
the clutch down. I noticed the smell of slipping clutch after a short
drive. Would a clutch that isn't fully disengaging cause these problems?
