[s-cars] AC Evap Drain Clearing?

Hi Mike:

I almost never run my AC but have some carpet stains and have observed a wet
carpet on the front passenger side but it is right at the point where the
floor pan goes up by the front seat. The ECU area has always been dry and
there is no staining there. I too have checked all my drains and can
confidently say it is neither my 4 roof drains nor the cowl drain which
leaves me with the AC drain. I have never been given a shower but do have a
wet carpet seemingly independent of rain. I'll have a looksee down the
sensor area.

Are you saying that your carpet is never wet?

If you think the evaporator drains are clogged, try this: there's a sensor
on the top of the evaporator housing (about 4" by 2", and held down by 7mm
nuts). Take it off and have a look in there (you'll want a small
flashlight). Mine was bone dry. I poured a quart of water in there and it
drains great. (I got that tee apart and water poured out the hoses on both
sides of the tee).

Are we chasing the same problem? I run A/C a while, make a slight turn, and
water drops come flying out the vents. It sounds like water hitting a steam
iron. It must be a puddle of water sliding into the fan wheel.

It doesn't have anything to do with rain, and the cowl rain drain is clear.
People often say their pass compartment is flooded after rain, floor/ecu
soaked, etc. Not me.

When I drive at a steady pace on a highway for over an hour, that puddle
grows, and then when I turn/speed up/slow down we get dowsed (everybody -
yeah the rear vents throw water too!)

I think it's A/C condensation that's not draining. So if the passenger side
evap housing is draining, condensation must be collecting somewhere else,
and not draining. Brilliant!

Anybody know if there's a drain under the fan?

I can't seem to reach the evap drain hose from below as it is tucked up
behind the exhaust heat shield. I can see the hose where it is teed in from

the evap container under the cowl. I tested that area and it does not
readily come apart and I fear yanking on the 12 year old plastic tee lest it
come apart on me. What to do?
