[s-cars] 1st, 2nd Gear difficulty -- advice?

S-Heads:

I had an EDU 6-speed rebuilt by Stasis Engineering installed last week.
They claim to test all of their rebuilt transmissions prior to shipment on a
custom fixture.

I'm having difficulty with 1st and 2nd gears; first is often notchy and
second is almost always a two-step motion to get into gear where the lever
goes partway in, but takes more effort to pull home with a distinct notchy
feeling.

I'm thinking this may be my car, not the box, since I was having similar
issues (but not quite as bad) with my CBL prior to replacement.  My mechanic
wants to take another look at the adjustment on the shift linkage. The 3-4
and 5-6 shifts are flawless.  

What advice do you guys have? Any hunches?
