Who in the hell spliced the coil wires under the coil pack cover????  There
is a reason the wires on the new packs are long.  Electrical tape in that
environment?  Man....

Frayed Insulation at Coil Wiring
I took the coil pack off and found 2 wires with frayed insulation near the
junction where it enters the head.  I now have a love hate relationship with
electrical tape---again. Looks like these coils were indeed replaced at some
time, but the splices were done at this junction point. It's funny becuse
the reason I picked up this spare was that we old coils were replaced in
this same manner and I wanted a set that weren't spliced at this point.
Nuts.


ECU Fuses
I looked at my fuses in the footwell again. What I see does not seem to jibe
with the Bentley.

This is what I have, from left (closest to transmission tunnel) to right

Black Plastic Fuse Connector
Wires: RED wire /  BLUE wire
Fuse: 10 Amp

Tan Plastic Fuse Connector
Wires: BLUE  /  Black with Red stripe
Fuse - 15A

Red PLastic Fuse Connector
Wires: RED / Black with White stripe
Fuse: 5A

Yellow Plastic Fuse Connector
Wires: BLACK  / Green and Purple Stripe
Fuse-15A

OK, so for me it was the Yellow Connector fuse that blew, and the engine
immediately died the other night.

Looking at the Electronic Bentley on P24-27, Diagram 24-544 I see something
very similar to what I have except that Bentley only shows 3 plastic fuse
connectors and I seem to have 4.

Bentley shows the following:

Black Holder
Evaporative Emissions Evap frequency valve circuit breaker (S-75)
Unless I am looking at the wrong thing, which certainly is possible, I have
a fuse, not one of those silver circuit breaker things.

Brown Holder (Mine looks Tan to me, but I gues tan and brown are close
enough?)
Injector Valve Circuit  (S-72)

Yellow Holder
Heated Oxygen Sensor (S-73)

So the Bentley does not seem to have my Red Holder.

A few questions
1. Have I been sniffing the modeling glue again and I am looking in the
completely wrong place?
2. Presuming my Yellow Holder and the Yellow holder in the Bentley are
indeed the same, this means that if that fuse blows for the Heated Oxygen
Sensor it will stall the engine--yes?
3. WHere should I looke for faults in the Heated Oxygen Sensor? I replaced
the o2 sensor about a year or 2 ago with the expensive OEM part, no splicey
dicey.
4. Does a 15A fuse for a heated 02 sensor circuit sound kosher to you guys?
5. Is the Brown Holder 5A fuse I have what some of you guys who responded
that a 15A fuse was way too much thinking of?

I must admit, wiring diagrams give me a slight headache.

Although I have been driving around with a 15A fuse in the yellow holder for
years now, you 5A guys have me paranoid now, so the car is sitting under the
tree for now.
