Darin:
I just added Linksys wireless to a wired network a week ago... I had some
trouble with an Dell internal wireless laptop (assuming internal here) with
the linksys router. The problem with linksys wireless is that it is doesn't
car for the the Microsoft Network Connections menu. Normally, you have a setup
disk with the WAP that includes a profile and WEP ID. Usually, if you can
see all the computers, and the computer sees the access point, you need to get
the laptop computer on that profile and use the proper SSID and password.
If you have the SSID right (Call the wireless network "QUATTRO" for instance)
but you didn't put in the correct password (Say "Torsenboy") the laptop will
(in search wireless mode) connect to the access point, but not to the
internet.

If this is what you have, you need to set up the password on the computer.
There should be a "default" profile (with stored SSID and password) section
that allows you to not have to put the password in on each connection.

Hey guys,

Forgive the off topic post (from the list mod no less... oh the horror!)

Anyhow, I have a friend who doesn't know a PC from a toaster and he
has asked me to help him add wireless capability to his existing wired
network. While I do have some comprehension of networks and wireless
networks, I've never had the pleasure of adding a WAP to a wired
network so I'm a n00b here as well.

The office has a Netgear FVS318 VPN Firewall and we've added a Linksys
WAP54G access point to an open port. I can connect via wireless
laptop to both the Netgear router admin area as well as the Linksys
admin area via their respective IPs. I can see all the office PCs
including the wireless laptop on the router connection table with
their assigned IP addresses.

My only problem is that the wireless laptop cannot connect to the
internet. Any experts out there want to point me in the right
direction?

Thanks... and now back to your Scirocco and Omni discussions. ;-)
