Goodyear F1 GSD3 are definitely not as stiff as the Falken RT-615, not even
close.
Apples to oranges, but they do not have the turn-in response of the RT-615,
that's a pretty
good indicator of sidewall stiffness.
The closest thing mentioned so far to the Falken are the Bridgestone RE-01R
and
the Advan AD-07, with the Bridgestone RE-070 being probably even stiffer in
sidewall
than the RT-615 but only being available in 225/45R17.
The Tirerack comparo was flawed in that it did not include the Falken RT-615
in the test,
but included the Hankook RS2-Z212, Kumho MX, Advan AD-07. The Advan is the
best dry
tire, if you don't mind shelling out the huge bucks for it ($245 or so in
245/45R17), that would
be my choice for the STi. No way would I put a tire like that on an Audi-
way too extreme (no
tread life, too stiff and noisy, mediocre wet traction).
As I said before, the Goodyears are a good all-around tire, lots of listers
running them as well.
I might get a set for the Volvo this year- same requirements as you- quiet,
decent ride, not too
expensive, decent wet and dry grip. I'm still considering the Bridgestone
RE-050PP as it is a
much bigger OEM for cars like AMG MBZs and BMWs and it's a newer design.
