In my wife's C5 2.7T you can sometimes shave, have coffee, and read the
paper in the amount of time it takes to downshift when you press on the
gas....seriously horrible.

I found tiptronic performance to be dependent on the ECU variant.  The DJ
boxes for the C5 2.7t were superior to others at the time.  Adding a giac
tipchip and a 1st gear recode and the cars were shifting extremely well.  I
know of others who had random gear hunting issues and 1-2 clunk that were
remedied by swapping to the DJ boxes.  The GIAC tipchip makes a world of
difference in terms of shifting speed and performance for the tiptronics.
