Along the lines of what Rich said, if your synchronizers are shot, the
slicker action of Redline will allow you
to shift faster than the synchros can keep up.
Redline slicked up my Miata's transmission to nearly rifle-bolt precision.
I didn't notice any real difference in my 5ktq or my 200q when doing
Redline, though.
It didn't really do anything in my old Pathfinder, either.
Some transmissions are a lot more sensitive to cold weather, though- my old
VW GLI was really crunchy until the gearbox warmed up. Same thing with the
STi- it doesn't want to engage 1st or 2nd very easily in sub-40F weather.
