[s-cars] questions regarding track pads

Pads are highly subjective. It really depends on whether you want a high
initial bite or value modulation over initial bite, also depends on your
driving style. Since an A4 isn't a really high power car (but heavy), you
won't need really high temp capable pads, but you would be best served with
a real track pad (no Hawk HP Plus, for example). Pagid, Ferodo, Carbotech,
Porterfield, Hawk, Performance Friction, Satisfied, Mintex, etc.- there are
a ton of brands and different pad options out there.
Yes, you need to bed track pads to the rotors, preferably to a separate set
of rotors so you don't have to scuff and rebed the street pads when you
switch back.
No problem to install them at home and drive to the track, unless it's below
40F, then you might have some problems stopping in the cold.
Obviously, make sure you also bleed the brakes with fresh, high temp capable
brake fluid.
BTW, it doesn't hurt to bring a brake bleeder, a few cans of brake fluid and
a spare set of pads and rotors to the track, if you can afford the space.
