Hi Mike:
The dashpot controls used to be very important in the 70's 80's when
pollution control systems were primitive.  My feeling is that if the car
seems to run right w/o it, then it is prolly intended to make deceleration
more consistent for emission certification purposes.

Seriously...what's the point of slowing down the last few degrees of 
throttle closing?  I took it off to see what would happen and I can't 
tell any difference.
