[s-cars] hydraulic system leaks

In addition to troubleshooting CPS issues, I’ve been dealing with a few
leaks…

Seems the cold temperatures we’ve been having in northern Wisconsin have
brought out numerous hydraulic system leaks. The X-plug, the J-hose, and a
return line down low (going to or from the cooler?) are all leaking. I
replaced the X-plug over the weekend with a new Audi plug with O-ring. It
is still seeping, although not as badly. Is it just too cold for it to
seal, or do I need to tighten the plug more, or is something in the seat
preventing a good seal?

A former Jaguar technician suggested putting a little bit of RTV silicone on
the O-ring when replacing it. I didn’t take his advice—I was afraid of the
possibility of a little pieces of silicone coming off and plugging up
something in the hydraulic system. However, if it is the only way to get
the X-plug to stop seeping I’m willing to give it a try. Thoughts?

Looks like I’m going to need a new J-hose (or send mine in to get rebuilt)
as well as one or more return hoses. The only one I’m sure is totally dry
is the pump-to-rack pressure hose. Recommendations as to the best source
for hoses?
