Here's a howto for a quick CPS swap.

BTW', if you have a '95, I would suggest you buy the early _and_ late model
of CPS from the group buy site. They're about 10$ a piece and the last thing
you want is to be stopped in the middle of the repair because you have the
wrong 10$ part. BTDT. (Sorry can't find the link for the site for the CPS
but I'm sure someone still has it).

Well I think I’ve got my stumble narrowed down to the CPS. A few weeks ago
while driving to/from work, I started getting an occasional power-loss
stumble (as if the key had been switched off) accompanied by check engine
light and tach needle dropping suddenly. Sometimes this would happen during
spirited acceleration, but other times while cruising at a constant speed.

I pulled codes and got the code for the engine RPM sensor on the flywheel,
which I replaced (even though Bob warned me it might be the CPS instead!),
but the problem persisted. However, no codes were being stored (getting
4444). Yesterday while test driving I discovered the problem would occur
any time over 3,800 RPM, which is pretty consistent with some past postings
on the CPS being needed for starting AND above 4,000 RPM. But still no
codes.

Drove the car to work today and forced the problem on my way home
 this time
I got a code for the CPS. Finally. Guess it is time for a project.

Now if only I can find the CPS I got in the group buy 2 or 3 years ago
 and
if it is the correct one for my ’95. And why didn’t I just have the CPS
replaced along with the timing belt change 1,000 miles ago? ;-(
