If it is the CPS failing when it is hot, but recovering when it has cooled off, 
then the ether shouldn't make a difference.  If the CPS is dead (not dying), 
then no amount of ether will help.

Pull the codes. If/when it happens again, let the engine bay cool off and try 
starting it without the ether.
