Thats a viable possibility. The extra volume, extra glass, and of course 
extra heat from the exterior could very well cause a big differance. Do you 
recall what center vent outlet temperatures were measured?

Also a note for noisy compressors is to try BG Frigi-Quiet. I'm sure there 
are other simmilar products, but I'm only aware of the BG version:
