[s-cars] Subject: Serp belt woes

Cody,
The most commonly achieved temperature was 45F, even after a 15-20
min drive with the temperature 85F to 95F during all the tests,
never under
43F in the cool shop. The sedan would cool the ducts to 42F easily
within 5 minutes and the entire car would be comfortable if it had
not sat in the direct sun.

I came to the conclusion that, since the noise with the new
compressor installed was the same, some of the noise comes from a
different
source, fan bearing perhaps. The a/c plenum seems to heat up more
in the black avant also, so it takes longer to cool the ducts down. I
might not have thought it was any problem if I wasn't used to the
sedan working so well. I had the new compressor and thought that it
would
bring things into spec. After 3 return trips it becomes apparent
that the shop isn't going to improve things and I lose interest and
move on to
things that are totally broken where I think the time is better spent.

I didn't know about any of the noise products, or how they work, so I
will have to investigate. I have a trip to a/c country next week
(FL), and
plan on avant to haul all my trash, otherwise it will be spring
before the a/c gets much attention. Maybe it needs a break-in
period. :-)
