[s-cars] Saw my first A5

the supercharged mustangs that ford is selling now use a drive that is an integral part of the front cover of the supercharger, so a pulley change requires removal of the supercharger. the pulley is pressed on, making removal difficult. i'm sure ford did that on purpose to make it more difficult to modify the cars, and easier to spot tampering, so that people can't increase the boost, blow something up, change back to stock, and make a warranty claim.

Special pulley tool # 20XX only availible from AoNA for competition purposes only....

Probably stocked with all of the NOS parts they keep for restoring the "classics"....

supercharger
isn't necessarily all bad. look at the power output mercedes
got with superchargers. and the most powerful production
corvette ever is showing up with a supercharged engine,
too. it's rated at 14/20 mpg, which isn't great but is
comparable to the S5, and far better than other supercar offerings from
ferrari, porsche, etc.

question is, will audi be taking steps to make sure the supercharger pulley can't be swapped for a smaller one?

As Taka pointed out, the plumbing is easier, and the apparent intent is that
it'll nestle between the cylinder banks. That being said, I'd prefer a
turbo myself, more fuel efficient and more tunable, although I'm willing to
bet that's part of the reason Audi wouldn't want to go that route.

FWIW, the same column said that the RS4 will retain the V8, possibly blown.
