Jake - it's not uncommon to have a bit of play in a turbo, and if you had a
bad turbo (others here with more knowledge will chime in), I'd expect your
car would be smoking out the tailpipe and burning oil.

Given that the car is chipped, and that you were able to re-start the car
and have it drive fine, I can't help but think if you are somehow hitting
the boost cut-out level. IA Stage 3+ will pull pretty hard, I'd think. Your
issue sounds a lot like me hitting boost cut out in an IA Stage 1 5000 tqa I
used to own. 

There are a lot of things that might cause you to hit boost cut out
prematurely. You've started checking hoses, and I'd give all of the hoses,
not just the intake and Samcos a very close look, again. Feel for hidden
splits that can't be seen, only found by touch.

I'm sure the list will also have additional good ideas.
