[s-cars] S2 Sedan rarity?

Saw a green 80/90 sedan with a factory-looking deck lid spoiler today 
near Boulder.  Quattro grill badge, but the rear had an S2 badge.  The 
hood looked like it had a really bad flat paint job on all but the 
leading 6 inches (or it burned at some point?).  We were in a parking 
lot and the two 20-something women inside did not look like the lead 
foot type (what does that look like anyway?) and I could not hear a 
turbo spooling up as they passed me -- the way I drive, my turbo whines 
in all gears, even in parking lots (life under 4k rpm is so boring).  
Was this a likely forgery or ultra-rare sedan?
