Very few of the DTC's generated are straightforward in
interpretation and
require the repair manual to interpret and lay out a troubleshooting
plan
to determine the problem. Many of them result from a different
failure, so
those are "false".
Even Bentley is not sufficient and the list experience is invaluable in
solving some issues. Consider the CPS issues and access to a
cheap sensor and change procedure developed by guys posting on this
list, and how much more difficult it was when the dealer part was the
only
option at $400. This is just an example--there are many more
significant
contributions--but, you wouldn't be getting this quick advice, "it's
probably
the CPS, just change it", if it still cost $400 and you had to remove
the
timing belt following the repair manual. It's a lot easier to
"blame" the
CPS now that it's a $10 part, even when no code is present.
