I have not run 18's ever on the UrS, but rules should be similar for any wheel?with an 8 inch width.? The correct offset for our cars is 35mm.? Using a 42mm offset is going to place the rubber inboard an additional 7mm (a little over 1/4 inch).? I have a set of wheels with a 38mm offset, and?they work fine.? 4mm more may not cause a problem, but it will certainly look different, and may not give you the "wide stance" or full wheel well look you may be seeking.
The 225/40/18 tire size should be fine... having a diameter that is very close to "normal."
I believe H&R makes an 8mm spacer.? Combined with a 42mm offset, you would be at 34mm.? This may be an option as well, and would likely be much more visually appealing.
The drawbacks... road noise, increased harshness... the usual as wheel size increases.? Your suspension sounds like a fairly compliant setup, so it may not bother you.
I have always been partial to using 17x8's with 255/40/17 tires.? A nice look, a good ride, and excellent handling for such a heavy car.

Subject: [s-cars] wheel package ?
Hello all,
I hate to start a volitile thread like this, but I need to tap the list
wisdom.
I have an opportunity to buy a full set of wheels and tires that are 18x8
with 42mm offset and currently have 225/40/18 tires mounted. I want to put
these on my 95 S6A.
Will this offset and tire size work on my car?
I know many have said that an 18 is too big for these cars, but I'd love to
hear from anyone who may be running 18's, and get their thoughts. Other
than the obvious additional weight and additional cost to buy new rubber,
what are the drawbacks of running 18's? Are they just too big and look
goofy? Unfortunately, I won't have the luxury of test fitting before I buy
which would answer all my questions.
The car has the Euro springs and Bilstein Sports, so it's about 1/2" lower
than stock. I don't track the car, so that is not a concern.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Ron
