Yep the 993 4-piston calipers have the spring clip. Squeeze the middle (vertically) with your vice grips to release one end and it swings down (or I think it's up as mounted on a C4 chassis, I have both orientations between our S6 and eS2/ coupe).
If the pads have the anti-rattle clips installed they can be a bit of a pain to wrestle loose as they set into the piston centers. It helps to retract the pistons as far as possible- I use a channel lock wrench to squeeze the pads away from the rotor, with a rag to protect the caliper paint. If the pads are really worn thin then they should then pop out of the piston with enough clearance for the clips. Remove the fluid reservoir cap first.
I reinstall without the clips on the pad backs, without them it truly is the simplest pad swap ever.
