[s-cars] WTB: late '90s A4/A6, New England area

I used to see these kinds of people all the time when I sold Audis. They'd buy their kid this and that, sometimes used but just as often new, and they'd be back within 6 months because the kid had damaged the car and needed something else. The whole time they ranted about needing something safe to out their kid in, they never once heeded my advice about sending him/her to a teen driving course aside from ho-hum driver's-ed. Blew my mind. FWIW, I'd consider a 1.8T. Having had one with a slushbox, I can tell you there's enough getty-up without enough to worry about, and it was very reliable through our 8 years of ownership.
My kid's getting the '91 90q20v if it's still around.

All good points. I've told my friend that he should expect that the
car will be banged up at some point...thats what's keeping him away
from Hondas, etc.
He did call me to ask about a 2001 Prius for $3K.
"Car is in US, North American papers. Will be shipped anywhere for
$XX, you have 5 days to review car and return if not satisfied."
On retrospect, I think I need to take his wallet and bury it in my
backyard. He's just too gullible.
WRT the mileage -- my son bought his '97 with 135K on it last year.
We're all very happy with the choice, except that he'd prefer that
it's my '01 A4 with suspension, brakes, wheels/tires and chip.
I told him that his '97 wagon is just perfect for sitting in a
parking lot for the next 4 years while he's at school, then he can
get a more, um, interesting car.
