Some earlier versions (Type 44 - 5k/200) came with a similar version in
metal, but the ones I looked at had a smaller hose diameter than that used
on the C4 S-Cars. We tried this on a friends S4 and the difference left him
with seepage until he replaced it with a new/correct plastic part.
The thermostat cover was useable in the metal version however.

I have heard that the L fitting at the back of the head and the thermostat
elbow are available in metal for the previous models (200's). I don't think
the "T" was available in metal before, but I could be wrong. I think the
elbow for the 200's is slightly different size though, and I don't know if
it can be made to work.
I carry an extra T in my glovebox now, after I had the thing blow out on the
road just as you did.

So, I go to meet some guys I used to work with on the other side of
the metro area. Just as I get to the spot, I see steam coming from
under the bonnet. Then the dash lights come on. I make for the gas
station on the corner and turn off the engine. Hood up and peer into
the innards.
It takes me a while, but finally I see where it's coming from. It's a
T fitting right behind the engine block. Two hoses and a harne
