[s-cars] headliner question

My only comment on Wild Bill's usually thorough research and
reporting is that
he is promoting it's use for re-attaching the headliner, which can
not be done
without removing the headliner board since the adhesive must be sprayed
between the headliner and board. Even then, the result will not be
the original
smooth headliner since the foam backing is what fails when the
headliner droops,
and trying to re-attach it will result in lots of small balls of foam
everywhere instead
of the smooth backing it was when new.

There was some comment somewhere that the windshield had to be
removed to
get the headliner board out of the vehicle. This is totally
erroneous as the board is
made to be removed and installed through the door at a diagonal. If
you have the
board out of the vehicle, reusing the same material would be foolish
since new
headliner material is cheap. I don't see any avant instructions, but
the entry/exit
point appears obvious.

I replaced a 5K headliner in this manner and the Bentley instructions
for the S4/6
are similar if you can sort through them ignoring the no sunroof
instructions.

This was always considered to be a southern car problem with the
humid climate
they were subjected to and not a general problem. This could be a
result of
global warming, I suppose. :-)
