You can use a long/strong pipe to lever the ball joint down out of the
strut. The one I typically use is a 5-6' long heavy black iron pipe.
Insert it over the sway bar and under the subframe, then lever down
carefully as the pipe will usually want to roll/shift from where you
originally place it. You will most likely want a helper for
removal/reinstall. Sometimes it's necessary to jostle the strut/hub in an
inboard/outboard manner to free the ball joint, as it will occasionally bind
up if it isn't going straight in/out.

Hi,
I am going to do a front PS wheel bearing R&R this weekend and just
planned on pulling the entire strut to do the work on a press.
Problem seems to be that if the wheel bearing is original that many
are on there pretty damn tight and a "hub shark" tool and the like
can;t really do the job, or so I have been told. Some people have had
to use a 20 ton press to get that bearing out b/c the outer race was
effectively seized to the housing.
I am not looking forward to dropping the strut but I think since it
all comes out in one piece it might be the best and most economical
way to go. I have heard that you can get around taking apart the
connection of the swaybar and control arm by loosening the strut tower
on the opposite side of the car and using a big bar to pop the ball
joint leaving the swaybar and control arm connection intact on the
side the wheel bearing is being replaced, so I hope that holds true in
my case as I do not want to get involved in dropping the swaybar.
