What he said.  

I changed out the driveshaft in our "old" A4 Avant before I sold it and didn't even attempt to align it more than putting the spacers back where they were (noted by dirty/clean areas!) when I installed the center support.  I just spoke to the new owner yesterday after he's put about 40K on it and no problems.
