[s-cars] rear license plate bracket

I wouldn't drill holes through the trunk lid, since I think that  
would promote
corrosion even if you used some sealant on the bolts.  It should be  
simpler
than that anyway.  After you remove the two screws holding the  
bracket in
place you can carefully break the bond of the sealing strip that is  
holding
it in place so well.

If that sealant is holding the bracket so well that you have  
pronounced it
a permanent attachment, then that stuff should hold the plate in  
place better
than any fastener, and maybe you don't need to remove the bracket.  :-)
That is how I have my plate attached to the european center section.

If you want fasteners, I recommend the plastic nut and bolt kits that  
the FLAPS
sell.   You can remove the bracket or epoxy the plastic nuts in place  
with the
bracket in place if the old nuts have left enough of the recess  
available.  Or,
epoxy the nuts in new locations and drill holes in the plate to  
match.  Just
make sure the bolts are not too long.
