[s-cars] TPMS

I installed a Tire Rack TPMS set on my Mom's car (because she doesn't keep
track of anything to do with the
car, Dad used to do it, and I live 120 miles away) and it appears to
function acceptably, although this is an
earlier generation model that does not keep track of temperature, nor does
it temperature compensate. It is
programmable as to when it triggers a "check" warning and an "emergency"
warning, however it does seem to
be overly sensitive to temperature/pressure changes when you read the
digital display of pressures/difference of
pressure from set pressure so I've actually trained my Mom to ignore the
display (I don't, but she now does) and
wait for the warning beepers. Otherwise I'd end up with a phone call at work
anytime she drove more than a
10 minute jog. The warnings do work, which has saved her from driving on a
flat at least once (which she did
previously). FWIW, I think the system is helpful for the driver that views
the car as an appliance, but if you're
interested and capable of taking care of your car, it becomes either a
redundancy or a source of irritation (the minor
inaccuracy compared to the external gauge is enough to irritate the OCD
amoungst us).
