 In my mind, supercars just are, always have been, always will.? No question in my mind, the R8 falls into that category.? In my ride in one (not drive, the owner was nuts enough), it became obvious that this was a german ferrari.? Without as many quirks you grow to love with the reds.? I've had the pleasure of driving most of the one's on my list, just because I could and sought out those that would share.? The Viper falls into that category, I don't put the vette there... Yet.? The Urq does, as does the twin turbo Lotus Esprit I got to hammer before Jerritts took it home a few years ago.? Some just are in spite of my chagrin:? Diablo comes to mind immediately.? I will say the last time I saw as many stares as the R8 I took a ride in, was when I was driving a F-red 88 Testarossa.? I think the R8 will stand the test of time just as well.? That said, I can't imagine anyone not seeing the beauty and the history of Audi supercars only 25 years apart.? Standing on a bluff looking down on 33 urq's with Mike P's R8 dead center, and Treadway's SQ on one flank, Bufkins A2 on the other, everyone there knew we were looking at true appreciation of Audi's evolution of Supercars.

"Ugly?" never even called a Diablo that, Taka - there is no such thing in supercars.? The good thing about fine wine is which bouquet tickles your fancy.? That doesn't change the company at the table, it may direct you to another...? The R8 does things to the soul, as much as any ferrari.? And it doesn't feel like the driver has to compromise to it, like most Ferraris have been known to demand.? Speed is second to the carcophony of the very sounds of the machine, inside and out.? Mike sells the experience short, something I would expect of 'that guy'.? 

Great to finally see his confession, a secret many friends here have held on his behalf.? As with other friends that own and drive supercars, I enjoy the confessions of the drivers more than my own bumbling shock and awe of imprinting each machine experience.? Daily drive one, the pros and the cons are evaluated by well spoken men, better than any test rag review could possibly convey (a true bow to Paulie here, and David E Davis 'there' for some of the best though).? Mike P was no exception back in that banquet room at urq25.? I rarely share those confessions from these fine gentleman, but come away appreciating the moment of sharing the energy that surrounds the stories of these pilots.? The more they pilot, the more the intense the stories.? My one on one conversations with Blomqvist and David E Davis come to mind immediately.

As I contemplate your comments below Taka, I realize that maybe my mindset is less intense on which fine wine is chosen by a well suited gentleman.? Your very ascription reminds me of the old "justy" Christmas party 'favors' I used to give each guest.? I would call each couple, and ask what they drank.? I'd go to Sam's here in Chicago, and purchase the finest my budget would allow of the liqour they drank.? Appreciation for what it meant couldn't be put in words, some just know, a few didn't, quite ok with me.? And, there was the guy that took the fine Dahlwinny Single Malt, and carelessly poured a sprite over the top.? It's ok, most knew without a word.? As a gentleman I know Mike to be, your ascription to his choice of fine wine, makes me wonder what your drinkin.? And what you might miss because you possibly forgot your manners.

I know all about uncomfortable levels of attention- I have a Millenium
Yellow Corvette. :-)

BTW, regardless of how they drive, in terms of looks, in that price range,
I'd pick these over the R8:

Maserati Gran Turismo
Aston Martin DB9 (used)
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Lamborghini Gallardo (used)
Ferrari 575M (used)
