Eric:  Here are my thoughts on this (some repetition to others, e.g. Bob Myers, Tom Green):

1. Immediately wrap the cracked wire sections with electricians tape.  There have been cases

(I think Bob Myers was one) where the wire grounded to the cam cover or coil pack plate and shorted

out  the coils, i.e. blew the fuse - this stops you dead NOW.  Not good.  So remove the coil pack again

and tape your way out of an immediate risk.

2.  There is no POS to coil wire harness that you can buy.  The coils each have two wires.  One wire

(yellow) goes to the power connectors (white) on the fire wall. The other wire (black) goes to the POS.

When the ignition is on, there is power to the primary side of the coil.  The POS controls the flow of this

power (current) to ground (which excites the secondary coil and produces the spark).

I just took five coils off a OE coil pack this morning to give to a lister (part of an engine deal). They are

all hardwired together with just the two POS plugs and the two power plugs.  No harness.

3.  Apikol makes an excellent 1.8t coil pack kit.  The life of the little coil packs is definitely a variable.  I

still have only replaced one since I first did this in the fall of 2005 whereas others have lost multiple coils. Heat is the enemy.  Tracking is definitely a coil pack killer.

4. The GM Delphi "LS2" coil conversion is pretty easy.  The wiring is much the same as the 1.8t Coil

Packs.  I am going to be using the D585 coils ("Yukon" coils with a heat sink/radiator).  The D514A

LS2 Corvette coils don't have the heat sink but they look better and will be easier to mount.

I bought new D585 coils off ebay for $20 each.  The connectors are the Weathertech (or whatever)

design and are easily available off eBay for about $10 each.  (So far $150 in materials)  You can

scrounge 3 wire VW O2 sensor connectors for the power connectors but you need the Volvo

connectors to match up with the OE ECU harness in place of the POS units.

Here are some links.

5.  Replace OE with OE.  Kingsborne is one source of OE coils.

Hope that helps a bit. In the meantime, wrap those broken wires!!!
