Jerry,
Mark the belt position on the cam gear before removing anything, even
if you tie the belt to the gear. You are correct that if nothing is
moved, you can
just put it back together, but how do you know nothing has moved?
The whole purpose of marking and tying the belt is to convince you
that nothing
has moved when you put it back. You also need to be confident that
the belt did not move relative to the crankshaft gear while it is loose.
So, the question is, "do you feel lucky ? Well, do you?".
How did your clutch job go?
