Thanks Tom for the note. OK, I'll do it with the zips.
The clutch job went very well. Everything works great and no more oil leaking from the trany. The borrowed trany jack made it very civilized. Don't try the job without it. I probably could have gotten away with only replacing the oil soaked disc, since the rest of the clutch and flywheel looked great. But, not wanting to do this soon again, I decided to replace the pressure plate, flywheel, disc, throw out bearing, both seals, and the slave cylinder with new stock parts. When I asked the local Audi dealer, (Prestige), what a clutch replacement would cost, they answered: about $5000. So, would this have made my $5000 car worth $10,000?

Jerry,
Mark the belt position on the cam gear before removing anything, even if you tie the belt to the gear. You are correct that if nothing is moved, you can
just put it back together, but how do you know nothing has moved? The whole purpose of marking and tying the belt is to convince you that nothing
has moved when you put it back. You also need to be confident that the belt did not move relative to the crankshaft gear while it is loose.
So, the question is, "do you feel lucky ? Well, do you?".
How did your clutch job go?
Tom

Has anyone replaced the CPS lately? My 93 needs to be done and I am wondering if it is necessary to zip tie the cam gear to the belt. Looks to me like - just take off the belt cover, slide the belt off the gear, take the gear off, and replace the sensor. If nothing is moved, seems it should all go back on by just putting the gear back without turning the cam shaft, then the belt. Does anyone have anything to add to this?

Jerry: You *might* be able to get away with out the zip ties but for the cost, why try?
Here are some DIYs from the AudiWorld UrS FAQ page to guide you:
1. A good step by step with a few photos:
http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/195614.phtml
2. Here is another with all photos and no words:
http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/240314.phtml
As you can see, both use zip ties.
HTH.
