[s-cars] Has anyone replaced fogs with HID pencil beams??

Jeff,
Yep Lee's right, had on the S6 Avant PIAA 1000 driving lights on the outer sides of the lower grill intakes for IC and OC. A little work with the dremmel to cut out the fins but they sat in there nicely. If RS2'd and running the car hard without a FMIC you might not want to try this or at least do the Frankenliner mod to allow the air to pass easier over the IC.
I think the new XT's are even better, but it did really help alot at night. Wired to the push fog button on the center dash, it went off with my highs on. The Audi highs are good anyways so I wanted them with the lows
The height of install was ideal too.
Take a look at these as this would have helped me a bit more in the slim fit dept.
PIAA 1100 X PLATINUM 35 degree span.

I'll echo Larry's comments regarding the Micro DEs.
I have a set on my '01 A4. The car has stock Xenon lamps, which
are about as good as the euro/TT upgrade on my son and wife's
cars.
The Hellas add a good amount of light in front and to the sides,
far superior to the stock under bumper mounted projector fogs on
the A4.
I'm just now adding a set to my '99 A6, again replacing the stock
under bumper mounted fogs.
I also got a set of the parabolic Hella driving lights, thinking
about mounting them inboard of the fogs on the A4. The 200s are
relatively small, and throw out an amazing amount of light.
For a C4 A6 or S6, I'd mount the fogs below the bumper and cut out
the lower grille. The lens on the Micro DE is small...it won't
need a big hole and it's pretty easy to mount. I think Don Warren
had a set of fogs mounted this way on his S6 avant.
HTH,
Lee
