Doug,

That sounds like a hydraulic failure.

Check your brake fluid, it's probably low due to a line failure.

I recommend you check the rubbere brake lines at each caliper, I recently
had one fail at highway speeds (traffic slowed to a crawl suddenly and I didn't, swerving into the median isn't fun). I'd bet that one of these lines has ruptured, and recommend you replace all 4.

If those are all good check the steel brake lines for a rupture.

If you don't find any bad line than I'd guess its the Master cylinder.
