My experience on my old '96 Cashmere car...
Nothing showed up on carfax when I ran it in Sept, 2003 before buying it.
Previous owner disclosed that he slid and hit the rear end into a lightpole:
trunk, tail light and bumper damage. Saw the repair paperwork, didn't look
too serious.
In my effort to help the new buyer ( a Canadian) last year , I came upon
www.carproof.com ( very good, BTW). It disclosed that my car was never
"officially" imported into the US ( no documention of importation). It had
front bumper damage in '98 or '99 ( I forgot).
Back to carfax, I used it again while I was looking for a replacement for
my S6. Just for fun I ran it again ( now 2008) on my S6. The PO accident
was now on carfax, BUT the date was wrong: June 2004 instead of June 2003.
Which made it appear as if the accident occurred while I owned it.
