[s-cars] Wheel dilemma

Tony,

I wouldn't rule out the centering rings so quickly... I've run 17" wheels
with centering rings on both an S6 and the LT-1Q without issue. That
includes Autocross and some reasonably brutal track sessions on a car
powered by a 5.7l V8 and stopped by Big Reds. Centering rings are just
mounting/centering guides, nothing more. Whatever you choose, do ensure
that you have correct spec/length studs!

Subject: [s-cars] Wheel dilemma

Hi folks,

I am attempting to purchase new wheels and tires for my S6. So what's the
dilemma.

1. Want to use OE or replica wheels. I want to stay away from centering
rings due a lesson learned with my Jaguar XJ8 (new bearings per wheel is not
cheap on these cars). 17x8 replica wheels are hard to come by (as well as
being astatically pleasing).

2. I am about to install 993 calipers so need the x-factor spacing.

3. I'm cheap - want to do this for $200 (cdn) per wheel.

4. I'm cheap - about $100 (us) per tire. 243 or 235 /40/17 tires don't fit
on 7.5 inch wheels - according to manufacturer spec sheets.

So the questions are:

Why do 45% aspect ratio fit on a 7.5 inch wheel but 40% don't (for tires in
price range, looking a Sumimoto HTRs II and III)

Can someone point me reasonably price replica 17x8 OE wheels.

or should I just go with 18x8.

TIA

Tony
96 S6 - still with the winter tires on
