In a the world of old go fast Audi' s and morons that try to keep them
running, you have to expect the unexpected and live with being wrong.
And so it was with my unstable idle. Suspects: MAF, plugs, coils,
fuel pump, idle stabilization valve.
Venture forth confident that whatever it turns out to be, it will be
the last thing I check.
And so I have a fine new FP. Avants are easy once the tank is
emptied. Of course you could zip through it but it may be another 14
years before any of this sees the light of day again so take double
the time and tidy things up.
Nope, not the FP but now we're good for this lifetime with the new
one. And was able to really vacuum up the bowls of the avant whilst
there.
Gotta be the touted to fail always 1.8tt coils.
Nope. Plugs?
Nope. Idle stabilization valve?
Nope. But now it is cleaned up.
And so we look at our friend the rs2 MAF. Voila ! Broken wire.
And that's why we save our old parts. Take out screens on the old
stock one.. insert crate type from the rs2 and finally our long
national nightmare is over. Or, at least this one is.
Thanks to all for the great responses!
Bill~gonna put the tranny back now~M
Epilogue - after all was good, in a rush of irrational enthusiasm, I
vacuumed out the car only to discover passenger side floor soaking
well ... d'oh plugged drain. What's the trick to cleaning this out..
No way to get a hand under there.
