[s-cars] What's the list wisdom on tire depth.. tolerance for 4 tires.

So I have to replace one of my max- summer tires due to a sidewall puncture.

Classic question.. with 3 tires at about 65% remaining tread (nope I didn't
measure the tread depth yet)

and buying one new Conti.. what is the List wisdom concerning how close to
match
tread depth on a Quattro?

Tire warehouse is telling me 1/32 nd.  or they won't mount the tire on the
car.
Can mount the tire on the wheel and give it to me, but they want to sell 4
tires.
